My name is Michael Cole. I’m the founder of “Higher Than Me “ Ministry, which consists of two entities: the first is is located Branson, Missouri, USA and the second is located in Sierra Leone, Africa.
Throughout my life I've had the privilege of serving poverty stricken people. Helping people in need, either in street ministry, hospital, prison, or church is my life’s calling. I have always found myself in the capacity of helping people in some way or another, and the challenge continually comes before me to make a difference in the world. Because I was brought up as an indigent child, I can clearly recollect my childhood sitting down in the corner of a room wondering when the next meal is going to take place. Waking up in the morning finding my brothers and sisters in bed with me keeping me warm with their body heat because my parents didn’t have enough money to pay the electric bill. We only had a couple of beds for eleven children to sleep in. Our dog got his daily exercise running after rats - most of the time the rats out ran our dog in our rented house in New Jersey. When it came time to cook a meal, all too often we would find cockroaches in our food - they would fall from the ceiling into the pot. There were no toys to play with and no money for outside pleasures, so our imaginations were our entertainment. I feel the pain of other’s in similar circumstances because their story is my story. This is my motivation.
I have been a Junior Pastor at Bethel Church in God in Christ in Poughkeepsie N.Y. I was ordained with bachelors degree in Theology school from Poughkeepsie N.Y. I was also active in many ares of the ministry serving at hospitals, prisons and with street ministries. I retired from my position as an Engineer Technician at I.B.M. in May, 2011 .
My wife, Felicia Cole, has 2 bachelors degrees, one in Biology/Spanish and one in Theology, and was a Bilingual Biology Teacher in New York. She also has a Masters in Educational Administration.
Together we hope to make a difference in people's lives. This is our mission.
We do not pass by someone in need. When you join the Higher Than Me Foundation, you join a community fed by love and hope, one in which everyone is welcome. Join us and discover the power of prayer, faith and humility.
We Love thy neighbor as thyself. This is not only a central tenant of Christianity, it may be the one that guides all else. To treat others with respect, kindness, and love is what we strive for, every day, in everything we do.
We believe that you don’t need a reason to help. All you need is opportunity. Together, we'll find places where our assistance would be most appreciated and we offer help, guidance, companionship and love.
Your life is your message to the world. We implore you to fill it with meaning and hope, with love for the Lord Jesus, and with compassion for all of the Lord's children. You are never alone when the Lord is with you, and He is always with you.
Michael and Felicia have three children, Michael,Avery, and Nadia Cole , who are involved in music entertainment field in Branson, Missouri. Their group, Voices of Glory, have a mission to change the world through singing tight harmonies with inspirational messages.
Voices of Glory started singing together in 2005 after their mother, Felicia, was in a car collision with a drunk driver, placing her in a coma. Day after day, the trio would serenade their mother at her bedside. 8 months later, Felicia came out of her coma. After this experience, the group began to travel to nursing homes and hospitals in an effort to bring hope to patients and their families.
